Vacant Visions
A Glimpse Into Phoenix’s Forgotten Spaces
Companion Zine to my solo gallery show, "Vacant Visions," at Brill Gallery in downtown Phoenix. This 8x10 soft-cover zine is packed with over 60 pages of additional photos that didn’t make it into the main exhibition, giving you a deeper look into the project and its themes.
Proceeds from zine sales will go toward covering the costs of printing and prepping for the show. Shipping starts after the January 17th opening, but if you’re attending, you can pre-order now and pick it up at the opening on January 17th or the closing on February 21st.
The images in "Vacant Visions" were all shot on medium format black-and-white film, hand-developed, and printed using traditional Silver Gelatin darkroom techniques. The prints were then processed with the Mordançage technique. This process softens and lifts the gelatin layer in the darker areas, allowing creative manipulation to produce textures, veils, and inversion effects.
This zine digs into themes of decay, change, and how neglect can sometimes pave the way for renewal. My work takes a close look at urban development in Phoenix, asking tough questions about the roles landlords, tenants, and city planners play in shaping the city. By capturing spaces on the edge of transformation or abandonment, "Vacant Visions" asks: What kind of city do we want? Who gets to decide its future?
